About
Steven Spiel has a passion for writing music. He has been seriously writing original music and arranging since 2003, has won a number of competitions, and has had experiences showing a well-rounded musical ability that include:
- 2011 Choral Conductor of the Year at Brigham Young University – Idaho
- 2011 Graduate Night showcase of original compositions
- Arrangement performed in live broadcast with millions in attendance
- Over 40 hours of teaching experience in front of the class in a university setting (music tech, theory, ear training, and audition/non-audition choirs)
- over 100 hours of private lessons/mentor-group-leading in composition and theory
- Soloist and narrator at Abravanel Hall in SLC
- Organ performance excerpt showcased on University website
- 1st place bass division IMEA state solo competition winner
- Showcase of composition in University-wide faculty newsletter

Steven will be received his BMA in Organ and Composition in December of 2011. He is a self-taught drummer and guitarist, as well, which background gives an immediate appeal to his music and a larger writing palette. His love is for classical and populist art music, especially when programatic in nature.
He currently lives in Durham, NC with his wife and daughter.
